MAN FRIDAY - CANNES - CHRISTINA HENDRICKS?

Friday 23 May 2014

With reviews of WLGP buzzing around this week and in timing of the Cannes Film Festival, what better way to choose than Ryan Goslings director debut... Either Director or Dr. Who? Or a bit of Cedric?
Quite interesting Beeb article about the Danish Director;)

Who can deny Christina's womanly beauty... girls crack on eating normally... curvy is far more sensual!

What we say – review by Elizabeth Wright:
Now this is a rom-com written with style. It is clear from the very start that the author is both intelligent and has a wicked personality and this all comes across perfectly in the very likeable protagonist, Poppy. This book would cheer just about anyone up, but I can see it connecting with graduates in their mid to late twenties especially. The words Monty Python and fuzzy duck should be enough to convince you of this!
The insight that Whyle offers into the film industry comes from clear experience, and combined with the drive of Paige, this book will reassure everyone that a dream career is within reach. And then there is the steamy sexual tension! Overall this is one of the best books I’ve read this year. It’ll make you smile, get you hot under the collar and make you think. I found the ending a little too easy and predictable, not really in keeping with the rest of the book, but there’s no denying that it is a happy ending!

After putting an end to a boring long term relationship, Poppy's life is suddenly filled with glamour, and then everything turns into a huge mess. But friends are always there to support her.
The book has everything you may expect in a perfect chick lit, but there's more: Nina Whyle writing style. It's refreshingly funny and smart, with large doses of irony.
I highly recommend!

Review by: Charlotte Foreman on May 19, 2014 : (no rating)
I love a bit of Hollywood glamour when I’m in need of an injection of escapism and Moving Up On Manolos delivered just that.

Jane Allen has escaped a controlling relationship but it’s left her fearful and low on self-esteem. Having given up on her acting dreams, her now famous friend and Hollywood’s top totty Alex Canty’s invite to Hollywood seems like a daunting prospect. But her flatmate bullies her into a makeover and before she knows it she’s on the flight across the Atlantic. Met by Alex’s exceedingly handsome but moody cousin Michael, Jane’s journey of self-discovery has only just begun. And it’s a journey across a very rich, opulent and celebrity populated terrain.

This is the sort of novel that makes you want to shout in triumph every time Jane squishes one of her demons. Nina Whyle is incredibly insightful about the damage a controlling relationship can do but when Jane starts grabbing life by the horns and things start going her way, you can’t help but feel smug.

A perfect summery read for those who feel they have lost their way. Read it and believe: life can be whatever you want it to be.

When Life Goes Pop!

Warning: This book contains flashing images of a sizzling sexual nature, one night stands, beautiful dresses, various lush locations, unbelievably handsome men, love, and true friendship.

Just as twenty-five year old Poppy Phillpot gets her life back into gear a mammoth spanner is thrown into the works - an unplanned pregnancy. But for the love of a patchy memory, who's the daddy?

Lyre Birds in UK?

I'm perplexed, got a bird in the vicinity that keeps tweeting Darth Vader's Imperial March tune?
Either a British song bird is about to fall into the dark trees i.e: the bird who sounds like a machine gun made in Stalin's Russia with a crooked twig lightsaber under wing or the ladybirds in his genus are avid sci-fi fans?
Has anyone heard a bird do that in the UK?
I keep looking up for the death-nest but pray the Ewoks have just got their forest mixed up...

I admire Mortensen as a performer, completely changeable like Gary Oldman. He brings power to a role and like so many captivating people, his upbringing was the big wide world.
Don't stay in, get out and explore the world, otherwise your anecdotes will be the same as everyone else's that are stuck to the opiate drift of mediocre (remember to take your kindle with you!) Reading releases your imagination... writing releases mine... xxx
