All things must grow

Fiction Writing: Co-Authoring with your best friend

We now have five books under our belt so clearly co-authoring works for us. We were friends before so perhaps that's why the collaboration works. Quite honestly, I couldn't tell you - but I do know that it's not always as easy as that.
Last year, I was asked to collaborate on a script with another writer and it was a total disaster. I didn't take into account the other's writer's attachment to his words so when I re-wrote parts of the script the writer was incensed. Our partnership didn't last long!
Clare and I have been writing together for so long that it has become second nature. We like the way each other writes and we never take offence when a sentence or a chunk of writing gets striked-out. I will often litter a draft with 'xxx' (my blanks when I'm not sure what I want to say) and Clare will come along and fill in those blanks. We have long ago left our individual egos at the door and embraced our collective ego
Perhaps, it works because we see the book through the same pair of glasses and we love the energy and laughter it sparks off.

Revisiting annoying characters

Tuesday 19 September 2017

When Life Goes Pop is the third book we wrote together. Several characters from the previous books make a reappearance in this book, including the awful Kimberly Roberts.  She deserves a book in her own right if she wasn't so irritatingly self-obsessed. I fear readers would hate her too much to read on. Kimberly also shows up in book four, My Disorganised Life

Book extract.
NEW FEARS FOR KIMBERLY ROBERTS when it was widely reported that Alex Canty has sought a restraining order against his ex-girlfriend In recent months Kimberly seemed healthier, happier, after her stint at the Betty Ford Clinic. After a few traumatic years her life seemed to be finally on the up. Sadly, Grazia has learned that she is still struggling to come to terms with the fact that her relationship with Alex Canty is over.

The less Poppy has to do with Kimberly the better besides she's got her own problems, an unplanned pregnancy - and for the love of a patchy memory, who's the heck is the daddy?

I often wonder if readers are offended with the use of swear words in fiction and perhaps finding it at the beginning of a novel would turn them off. It felt natural and necessary that Poppy would curse here, she certainly hadn't planned on getting pregnant and to her defence she was in a state of shock.

As writers we believe that the use of profanity in speech or writing is effective when used sparingly.

KICK-ASS FEMALE - doing it for themselves

Tuesday 12 September 2017

Fighting Love is the second book we wrote together and to think we now have four books - five - when our latest offering is published or self-published. I am so very proud at how far we've come together.

Even though we've been through our own personal ups and downs, there's never been a moment when we wanted to stop writing together. We share a passion and a vision and when we doubt ourselves we know how to hold one another other up. So big up to my writing partner, WHYLE-Y SMILE-Y

If you are new to Nina Whyle, perhaps you'll like the sound of, Fighting Love.

Harriet is a one-woman fighting force and certainly not about to succumb to the charms of A-list actor, Alex Canty.

Some words from Fighting Love.
