Revisiting annoying characters

Tuesday 19 September 2017

When Life Goes Pop is the third book we wrote together. Several characters from the previous books make a reappearance in this book, including the awful Kimberly Roberts.  She deserves a book in her own right if she wasn't so irritatingly self-obsessed. I fear readers would hate her too much to read on. Kimberly also shows up in book four, My Disorganised Life

Book extract.
NEW FEARS FOR KIMBERLY ROBERTS when it was widely reported that Alex Canty has sought a restraining order against his ex-girlfriend In recent months Kimberly seemed healthier, happier, after her stint at the Betty Ford Clinic. After a few traumatic years her life seemed to be finally on the up. Sadly, Grazia has learned that she is still struggling to come to terms with the fact that her relationship with Alex Canty is over.

The less Poppy has to do with Kimberly the better besides she's got her own problems, an unplanned pregnancy - and for the love of a patchy memory, who's the heck is the daddy?

I often wonder if readers are offended with the use of swear words in fiction and perhaps finding it at the beginning of a novel would turn them off. It felt natural and necessary that Poppy would curse here, she certainly hadn't planned on getting pregnant and to her defence she was in a state of shock.

As writers we believe that the use of profanity in speech or writing is effective when used sparingly.
