Run Nina Run

Friday 17 June 2016

Saturday 30th April 2016 I was lying in bed with my husband and children when I suddenly announced that I was going to enter the London Marathon. Baring in mind I haven't been for a run in over seven years this came as a bit of a surprise to me.

The truth is I've been feeling restless for a while and I needed something to push me out of the house. I wanted to feel strong again not just physically but mentally too. I haven't exercised properly in years and I wanted to change that. So in my old trainers and sportswear I stepped out of the house and began to run. I managed just ten minutes before I had to stop and catch my breath but it felt good. I thought it was going to be hideous but it really was quite the opposite.

I've now been running for seven weeks and it's amazing how far I've come. I run two to three times a week and I run approximately 4 miles each time and it feels great. I can't stress enough how much happier I am (this must be the endorphins everyone tells you about). I presume this is the honeymoon period and as a friend kindly pointed out it won't be as much fun running in the cold and rain. Spoil-sport. But I already know that running is having a positive impact on my life and I feel fitter and happier for it. I'm under no illusion that training for the marathon is going to be hard work. But for now it is simply about me getting out in the fresh air and putting one foot in front of the other.

As the weeks and months go by I will let you know how it's going and I will also talk more about the charity I'm running for - Get Kids Going!
