*3 - ONE HOT NIGHT
Susie
and Flo are already inside the club. Their random text messages on the way
over told me they were the other side of sensible already. Their last text
said they were at the sugar booth on the right hand side of the bar. I made my
way across the dance floor, dodging sweaty bodies and flaying arms but still managed to end up with my face pressed up against some
stranger’s naked chest. Shocked, I just stood there. I didn’t move, I couldn’t
- bodies were pressing on all sides. I breathed in the sweaty, slightly musky
smell and rubbed my face against it, nuzzling into his masculinity; this was a
whole other creature to the sofa wildlife I had left slouching at home.
‘Well,
hi there.’ His deep husky voice melted into my ears.
‘Eh,
hi.’ I just about managed, stepping back and looking into two smiling eyes. I couldn’t think of anything more to say. He was ridiculously handsome;
dark eyes, high cheekbones, a straight, flaring nose. And his lips, full and
inviting, I wanted to reach up and kiss him.
I
quickly backed away, and bumped into the person behind me. Without knowing what
else to do I squeezed myself onwards through the crowd, kicking myself for not
being braver.
When
I found Susie and Flo they were sitting with a bunch of Hooray Henry’s and
swigging from their ample supply of champagne bottles. They were in the throws
of a fantastically flirty night and I really didn’t want to interrupt them with
my sober frustrations.
Instead
I headed for the quieter bar upstairs.
No one was in the chill lounge and the
bar was unattended. I waited for about five minutes then decided to pour myself
a large vodka and lime. I didn’t know what to do with myself.
‘What
does a man have to do to get a drink around here?’
I
looked up and it was naked chest man. He followed me up here. I was glad.
‘For
you, anything you like,’ I said boldly, fluttering my eyelashes.
He
smiled and walked towards me. ‘Well in that case I do have something in mind.’
Gosh!
Was it that easy! I gulped back my nerves just thankful he couldn’t see my legs
shaking behind the bar.
‘That’s
good because I thought you and I could have a long slow comfortable Screw up
against the wall.’ he said frankly.
‘I’ve
always preferred a little of sloe comforts,’ I said flirtatiously
‘I’m
game for some Southern Hospitality, if you are?’ His eyes undressing me with every syllable.
Was
I game? I wondered. But what about my boyfriend back home?
Yeah…what
about him? I thought. Was I going to spend my days hoping that he’ll want to do
something more exciting than sit in front of the TV and the occasional quick
bedroom session, bi-weekly at most? It’s obvious we don’t connect on anything
anymore. And yet here was a hot, hot guy standing in front of me, just waiting
for me to play.

Strangely
my stomach is full of nervous butterflies on the cab journey into town, my
bravery beginning to wane. I’m not sure I can do it, a one-night stand. What
if I end up with some weirdo who’s into real kinky stuff? This has the opposite
effect and I feel strangely turned on. Knowing my luck though I’ll probably end
up with a creep with a fetish for thimbles and the next thing I know he’s
handing me the silver polish for his prized collection just as he introduces me to
his favourites – by name!
“This is Thumbelina Thimblewick, she has lived here for thirty years on the
penthouse
shelf and only she can be on that shelf.
Don’t touch her shelf. EVER.”
That’s
it I’m turning back. What am I even thinking! I have a boyfriend at home who
loves me. Yeah a boyfriend who’s sense of intimacy is closing the blinds. Is
that love? These are my decadent twenties and the most decadent thing
I’ve done in months is put a sugar in my coffee.
But
what about the dangers, the health hazards?
“I’ll tell you what’s a health
hazard, a health hazard is living in a place where empty beer cans act as soft
furnishings.”
This
internal battle with myself continues right up to when the cab pulls up outside 'Bubble.' One of them wins when my foot hit the pavement
outside.

A repost for those of you who missed Sunday's post...
I felt ravenous for it,
chomping at the bit - not a usual trait for me. But when the bedroom is more
predictable than some mindless TV show, it’s time to take action.
Every attractive man tonight
will be fair fodder and my man at home can stay at home. I thought a
relationship was going to be my opportunity to learn and deepen my sexual
repertoire but my man seems to be more interested in watching TV, swigging beer;
and the damn dog gets more attention than me.
Here I am standing in
skyscraper heels and the most expensive underwear I've ever owned and he’s
snoring away on the sofa, his mouth wide open like a dribbling walrus.
I grab my disregarded dress
from the sofa and make for the hall. Armed with a pocket full of his money and
my Macintosh, I hail a cab from the street with the urgency of an otter
breaking molluscs. My friends said they were going to Bubble tonight and that’s
where I was heading.
A woman with a mission. I
want out from him, and the mundane existence that is my life and under someone
with a bit more zeitgeist for bedroom antics.
Goddammit I needed to feel like a
woman again.

A Little Note from Nina:
Where to start? Always a difficult question. I’ve been writing stories from the moment my trusty creaking second hand typewriter entered my bedroom, although my protagonists have changed somewhat – from rusty keys which held passage to magical mazes to hunky delicious specimens of the male species. I just don’t think the rusty keys are cutting it in the realms of romance! (No pun intended) Primary school reports indicated a tendency to fantasise. Nina’s a chatty girl and is a bit of a day dreamer if near a window, so we’ve move her onto a more conducive desk. Always rushing when she writes as if her imagination is going too fast for her pencil to follow. Well not much has changed there! I write in my spare-time but would love to write full-time because spare-time is getting rather illusive these days. But I’m never happier than when the (slightly updated) typewriter is settled on my lap/blanket/ wobbly table (really must fix that) thinking of the next chapter or moody male with no disturbances apart from my own storyline whirling around in my mind.
I tend to visualise as I write, build a picture and describe on the go, yes there’s plotting and developing but sometimes the story just erupts from the keys as I type. And really thats what I love about writing, creating a whole world from symbols and keys (again I left the rusty ones behind!) Through my many lives, as in jobs (you might have guessed I’ve tried a few different things so far!) the desire to write has never faded, not once and that’s why I decided to self publish and see how it went. With over 23000 books sales later, I realised, oh it went alright, now I need to get more prolific. I was so excited when I sold 3 books on the first day, now I’m positively brimming with optimism about future releases. I surprised myself. The journey is hard though and you learn as you go along, the first harsh review has you nearly in tears and the next few days you’re a doubting minnie gone mad, then the good ones come and your bouncing beans get restored quicker than replenishment in Primark! I’m working on my fourth book and my readers are so positively encouraging it’s not happening fast enough, but when I have a release date BCL will be the first to know. They are just brilliant, so stay connected and follow them – they have all the latest and greatest news in the wonderful world of Chicklit.
